Oh, you Boston gardens, you small and large, you rich and poor, you little patches of carefully-tended wildness in the heart of the city. Surrounded by the killing mulch of concrete and asphalt, you bloom forth. You show us the heart of the city, you show us the Mother's heart, and the heart of the Mother's people.

How can a city be so bad a place when there are flowers everywhere you look?
