Quick says I'm a victim. Or rather, she used to say I was really good at playing the victim.

So here it is. Here's the truth, out in the open, for everyone to see:

I left her.

That's right. It was me. I was the dirty dog who finally said no more, I've had enough.

And she never hit me, never laid a hand on me. Never threw my clothing out the window, never took my CD collection and ran it over with her car, never called up my best friends and told them I was a slut.

Never cheated on me, at least not to my knowledge. I wish she would have, actually. It would have made things easier to understand.

She just... didn't... love me back.

That's all.

She'll say different, I'm sure.

And whatever she says is probably true.

But one thing at least we can both agree on this time around: I did the leaving. For once in my long and sordid dating history, I was the one who up and left.

So this is what that's like to be the one who leaves.
