July 24, 2003 "We cannot hurt the monkeys because of the sentiments of the labor force" -- From an article in the Boston Globe about events in Calcutta, India. Don't hurt the monkey. The monkey is your friend. The monkey has created a crisis. The monkey and his friends have taken over the plant and now there will be no tea. I swear to Goddess, truth is stranger than fiction. For instance: I spend the better part of my day writing emails, making phone calls, and making entries into a spreadsheet, all the while surrounded by the paraphenalia of a hospital room that was once state-of-the-art, say circa 1979. Which was about the time that my quasi-supervisee was born. We banter back and forth about whether or not he really is a child of the 70s, since he was present for exactly six months of the aforementioned decade. We also joke that, when the laser printer (affectionately labeled "IS LOANER" by our friends down in the Information Services Department) runs out of toner, we will flip the emergency call button. And oxygen masks will drop from the ceiling.
Truth, mes chers, is definitely stranger than fiction.
